Movie Review: Ant-Man and The Wasp

Image
Review by Philip Clark How do Marvel continue to produce films that aren't actually superhero movies, but just include their characters? Captain America: Winter Soldier is a prime example. It was a spy movie, that just so happened to have Marvel characters in it. The first Ant-Man is another. A heist movie, that included Marvel characters. The second movie is no different. Only instead of it being a heist movie, it keeps that undertone, but feels much more like a family comedy. Plot - 7/10 The plot can, at times, be quite confusing. The amount of scientific jargon and terminology throughout the film probably left most viewers like myself, bewildered and pretending to understand what characters were saying. Scott Lang was very relatable in this way, as that's pretty much what he does during the entire film anyway. The film continues on after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Scott is put on house arrest after fighting alongside Cap. With only two d...

Streets of Ravnica - Daily Spoiler Commentary 13/9/18

Article by Adam Ray After her majesty arrived, I see now that she is a lot more narrow than my positive review made her out to be. I concede that Vraska may be better served as an engine in Sultai Muldrotha or Abzan tokens in future Standard, and doesn't hold quite the power I thought. For Commander play however she's still nutty. Housekeeping aside, I bet you all wanna see new stuff. Next in the Guildmage cycle comes from the Selesnya. A reliable, late-game mana sink like this, to extend the board and buff the entire team can really swing a game for you in Draft. This little firecracker is okay I guess. She's not quite Azure Mage , but the ability to twin things, even something small in the limited environment could spell a quick turn for you. The last member of the new Guildmage cycle looks to bring some tempo to an otherwise aggressive limited deck. Tapping down rival attackers really stalls a game, while the burn can close out a game when your opp...

Review: Wasted Space #05

Image
Writer: Michael Moreci Artists Hayden Sherman Color Artist: Jason Wordie Letterer: Jim Campbell Review by Steve J. Ray This is it! After five issues of mirth, mayhem and madness the first volume of Wasted Space has reached its climax. The best part is, we now no longer need to wait for months and months for volume two to begin. Reader support and word of mouth for this unorthodox sci-fi saga has been so overwhelming that what was originally intended to be a series of interlocking mini-series has become an ongoing monthly. Woo hoo! There may be a God after all... even if he does look like Billy Bane's favorite childhood action figure. In case you haven't guessed already, I love this series. When we last saw Billy, Dust and Molly they had wrenched themselves free from the tight grip of ASS and were on their way to kill the Galactic Leader. Now this villain may well sound like an evil carbohydrate, but Devolous Yam's power is explosive and far-reaching. ...

Streets of Ravnica - Daily Spoiler Commentary 12/9/18

Article by Adam Ray It seems like I posted yesterdays article, blinked, then the floodgates of spoilers came out while I wasn't looking. Lots to go over, so let's get to it. Affectionately named the two-stones, these mana rocks will find themselves fixing mana in Limited for the rest of the format and find be welcome in Commander Mana bases for the rest of time. The legacy of mana rocks that you can break for cards is well upheld with the banners , cluestones , and now these. The distinctiveness of the art really stands out on each one, with wires, not rope on the Izzet, and the Boros resembling a military badge of honour. The Izzet contribution to the rare Split cards is as enigmatic as you'd expect from the guild. Expansion is a very narrow Fork , but these effects are very useful to the Mizzix or Melek player at the table. The Explosion half is a lot more interesting. Being able to do both halves of an Invoke the Firemind at Instant Speed is very ...

Streets of Ravnica - Daily Spoiler Commentary 11/9/18

Article by Adam Ray Guilds of Ravnica spoilers are going on, and as always, here are my thought out opinions on the ones that might be strong enough for some kind of constructed. Let's go! Although this soldier isn't exactly too fancy, and lacks the 'knight' creature type, I feel that the best aggressive deck post rotation will either be Blue/Red Wizards or Mono-White. Mono-White's ability to go wide and strengthened with Benalish Marshal . The deck may be in need of two-drops and one that puts counters on the Legion's Landing  tokens. Kapow. This is another Goblin that I think can make it into the upcoming Jund Gob-Ristocrats deck I feel is looming. Skirk Prospector , Goblin Trashmaster , Siege-Gang Commander , Dark-Dweller Oracle . All Goblins which sacrifice other Goblins for value. If a colourless drain effect, or the mana fixing afforded by Chromatic Lantern  allows this deck to play Poison-Tip Archer , we may be sending many Goblins to untim...

Streets of Ravnica - Daily Spoiler Commentary 10/9/18

Article by Adam Ray We are less than two weeks away from Prerelease for Guilds of Ravnica  which makes spoiler season officially open. Admittedly, my homeboy, Gobbo here has been printed six times. Though he's returning to Standard with what looks like an upcoming Blue/Red or Grixis spells deck. If Gobbo is good enough to fuel Modern spells decks, he'll be powerful in a Standard without Fatal Push . The first of a few Split cards, which also nicely show off Hybrid mana returning to Standard. With Split cards, you only cast one half or the other from your hand. Perhaps Ravnica Allegiance  or the unnamed 3rd Ravnica set will bring back the Fuse keyword, that lets a player cast both halves. The Response half is a strong Red/White removal effect, already strictly better than Gideon's Reproach , which sees some sideboard play in Control decks. The Resurgence half is another show to hush detractors that Wizards is unwilling to print extra combat effects. They ve...
